Animus PGLA Antibac is a sterile, braided synthetic absorbable suture composed of Polyglactin 910 (90% glycolide and 10% lactide), specifically designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation in veterinary surgical procedures.



Overview

Animus PGLA Antibac is a sterile, braided synthetic
absorbable suture composed of Polyglactin 910 (90% glycolide and 10% lactide), specifically designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation in veterinary surgical procedures. This advanced suture is coated with a combination of Polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate for enhanced handling and reduced tissue drag. It is further impregnated with triclosan (200–600 ppm), an antibacterial agent known to reduce the risk of bacterial colonisation on the suture.

Coloured violet for improved visibility during surgery, Animus PGLA Antibac is also available in undyed form upon request.

Indications / Contraindications

Indications

Animus PGLA Antibac is indicated for:

General soft tissue approximation and ligation

Surgical procedures requiring antibacterial protection

Ophthalmic procedures (excluding cardiovascular and neurological use)

Contraindications

Not suitable where long-term tensile strength is required (e.g., fascia, orthopaedic repairs)

Should not be used in cardiovascular or neurological tissue

Use with caution in infected or contaminated wounds where surgical drainage is not adequate

Not recommended for patients with known hypersensitivity to triclosan or
synthetic polymers

Warnings & Precautions

Do not resterilise. Discard opened or unused sutures.

Avoid prolonged contact with salt solutions (urine, bile), which may lead to
calculus formation.

Skin sutures left in place for more than 7 days may cause irritation and should
be removed.

Handle with care to avoid crushing or crimping the suture.

Use proper knotting technique to ensure adequate knot security.

Exposure to high temperatures may degrade the suture – store below 30°C and away from moisture/sunlight.

Storage

  • PGLA antibac should be stored in its sealed foil pouch until ready for use.

  • The product should be stored at room temperature in a dry environment.
